Description
For many years, we have sourced our staple Ethiopian natural from a variety of American importers, but always from the Kayon Mountain farm of Shakiso, Ethiopia. In 2025, when African harvests began to land in ports across the US, we tried dozens of samples of different Ethiopian varieties, processes, and coffees from regions outside of Guji, where the Kayon Mountain Farm is located. While we will always appreciate the excellent work and evident quality in these remarkable coffees coming out of the Guji zone, and from Kayon Mountain specifically, we decided to try and find the very best balance of flavors and affordability so that long-time fans can expect the same level of quality and flavor experience at a price that feels right. It wasn’t until we cupped an excellent sample that was sent to us by the team at Algrano that we began to switch gears and reconsider our sourcing strategy for Ethiopian coffees. The reputation that the Halo Beriti washing station has earned over the seven years of its operation often precedes it, and while we’ve offered some of their coffees back in 2019, we wanted to find another opportunity to bring some of their coffee back to our lineup. Since then, we’ve had this washing station earmarked, and it wasn’t until this year that all of the pieces fell in place. For the first time in five years, we’re pivoting to a new natural process coffee from Ethiopia to serve as our year round staple.
Located in the Yirgacheffe-Gedeb region of Ethiopia, the Halo Beriti washing station is owned and operated by Boledu Industrial PLC, a coffee exporting company created and helmed by Mebrahtu Aynalem and Abiyot Ageze, two friends who had a passion for coffee and the communities who produce it. Founded in 2018, Boledu unites the efforts of a large network of over two and a half thousand smallholder farmers who cooperate to produce and process world renowned specialty coffees, priding themselves on employing traditional ancestral agriculture methods while also utilizing state of the art technology and methodology to hone their craft. Grown on small plots averaging 2.2 hectares in size, the coffees in this lot are grown at the lofty elevation range of 1950-2200 masl, and the resultant complexity from this high altitude imparts everything we’ve come to love about Ethiopian coffee and more. This lot not only represents a different region of Ethiopia, but also the very first time we’ve sourced a coffee through Algrano, one of the industry leaders in transparency and equity in the coffee supply chain and are very impressed with what they’ve accomplished through their platform. We’re looking forward to hearing back from our community about this coffee and hope that you all are as ecstatic as we are to try out this world class offering from the Halo Beriti washing station of Ethiopia. Cheers!
