What makes this tea more expensive and a luxury for a tea drinker is the fact they include the buds. Tea buds are basically the new growth, two small leaves form with a bud in the middle. These can only be hand picked in spring time and is very hard to do in bulk, usually the younger the leaves, the less bitter and more floral sweet the tea, the buds are an ultimate example of young leaves. For Chinese black tea, the gold refers to the color of the end product, high quality tea will be gold or gold tipped. They tend to be the more complex and sweet teas.
